Catalyst Housing Group have released a Black Lives Matter statement:
Statement from Ian McDermott, Catalyst Chief Executive:
‘Following a one minute’s silence for George Floyd on Tuesday our colleagues shared their thoughts, feelings, experiences and outrage to his appalling and brutal killing. We discussed the discrimination of black communities in America, on UK streets and in our society. It has again spotlighted that while every person is entitled to respect, not everyone gets it.
‘George Floyd’s death has caused us to reflect on what more we must do at Catalyst to combat the blight of racism.
‘We’re proud to have a diverse group of colleagues and customers. Our values of ‘show kindness’ and ‘give respect’ apply to everyone. It shouldn’t take a death to prompt action to ensure greater equality and respect. We will though make sure we use this time to commit to further actions to improve inclusivity and opportunity for all our colleagues and customers.
‘We will continue, and intensify, the conversation with our colleagues and speak to our customers on what more we should do. Then make sure we do it.
‘Simply not being racist is not enough. As a provider of 32,000 homes and an employer of 1,200 people we must fight racism, discrimination of all types, be open about discussing our own challenges and address inequality.’
