The impact of Universal Credit revisited

Published by Northern Housing Consortium

Since the beginning of the roll out of Universal Credit in 2013, many agencies including the Northern Housing Consortium (NHC) have warned of the detrimental effects of the new benefits system on claimants and the additional pressures facing the agencies that support them.

Changes to the Universal Credit system were implemented in early 2018 and in light of these structural changes the Northern Housing Consortium has once again surveyed its membership in an attempt to gain new insights into how these changes have impacted on members and their tenants. It follows on from the NHC’s Impact of Universal Credit which was a year-long longitudinal study in which the NHC collected intelligence on UC’s impact on members’ tenants, on their organisation and their experience of dealing with DWP.
